SUMMARY:
At XL Construction, the Senior Project Superintendent – Science plays a vital leadership role in managing field operations on large-scale, technical life science projects across the Bay Area. This role is responsible—alongside the Project Manager—for the overall success of complex projects, with a strong emphasis on safety, schedule, quality, and field leadership.
With 10+ years of progressive field experience and a deep understanding of science and advanced technology environments, this individual brings precision, foresight, and mentorship to every phase of the build. The Senior Superintendent – Science also champions XL’s jobsite culture by modeling professionalism, reinforcing safety best practices, and ensuring strong collaboration across all partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead day-to-day field execution of technical science and laboratory projects
- Develop and manage project schedules using P6 and Lean planning methods
- Oversee field operations, daily logistics, and trade partner coordination
- Collaborate with designers, clients, and consultants to resolve design and constructability issues
- Lead all scopes of work including coordination of self-performed work (SPW)
- Identify daily milestones and align crews to ensure schedule adherence
- Participate in and lead internal team meetings, OACs, and trade coordination sessions
- Support pursuit and preconstruction efforts through scheduling, logistics planning, and field insight
- Train and mentor Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and craft staff
- Maintain a strong presence on the jobsite with deep awareness of daily conditions and needs
- Champion jobsite safety culture and ensure compliance with all procedures
- Cultivate unity and positive morale among field teams and partners
- cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Process)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive field leadership experience, including science/life science projects
- Ground-up and renovation experience in laboratory, biotech, cleanroom, or GMP environments
- Strong scheduling skills using Primavera P6 and knowledge of Lean construction practices
- Proven experience managing self-performed scopes
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities
- Familiarity with permitting, trade sequencing, and environmental controls unique to science builds
- Relevant market and safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30)
- High level of professionalism, collaboration, and operational excellence
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
In accordance with California’s pay transparency requirements, the base salary range for this position is $188,000 – $197,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Total compensation may also include performance-based bonuses.
